Privacy policy
This is a translation; the German version is binding.
1. The essentials
- ÖV Schweiz has no user account, no ads, no tracking and no analytics tools.
- Favourites, timers, history, news selection and settings stay on your device. We receive none of this data.
- For timetable queries the app sends your search (stops, time) and, if you allow it, your approximate location to the timetable service transport.opendata.ch.
- Purchases are handled by Apple or Google. We see no payment data.
- The website sets no cookies and stores nothing about you.
2. Controller

This policy follows the Swiss Data Protection Act (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
3. Data stored only on your device
- Favourite routes with via stops, weekdays and time windows.
- Timers and reminders: they are triggered by your device's operating system, without a server.
- History and quick selection of stops.
- Settings and your news selection (sections, feeds, favourites, recently opened).
- Timetable packages (databases) and which packages you bought.
This data does not leave your device. You can delete it in the app; deleting the app removes all of it. Depending on your device settings it may be part of your personal device backup (iCloud or Google backup).
4. Online timetable and location
The app requests connections, departures, delays and nearby stops directly from the open timetable service transport.opendata.ch (run by the Opendata.ch community, Switzerland). Your device sends the search (stop names, date, time), your IP address and – only for “nearby” and the location-based countdown, and only if you allow location access – your approximate location. We do not receive this data. Information on the service: transport.opendata.ch.
5. Offline timetables and in-app purchases
The timetable packages and the package list are stored on Google Cloud Storage (Google LLC). When a package is loaded and when the app checks for a new timetable, your device sends Google the technically necessary data, in particular your IP address and the time; we do not analyse these requests (policies.google.com/privacy). You buy packages through the App Store (Apple Distribution International Ltd.) or Google Play (Google Ireland Ltd.); the store handles payment, invoice and assignment to your account. The app only learns which packages were bought and remembers that on the device.
6. Permissions
- Location (optional): to find stops near you and to show the countdown of the route starting there. The app only requests an approximate location and does not store it.
- Notifications and alarms (optional): for timers and reminders you set yourself, and for the progress of a package download.
- The app does not use contacts, photos, microphone or camera.
7. News
The news page is a list of links to newspapers and feeds. When you open a link, your device loads the provider's website in the built-in browser; the provider's privacy terms apply there (for example cookies). If you share your news favourites, the app opens your email app; only what you send yourself is sent.
8. This website
The website is delivered via Firebase Hosting (Google). On each visit Google processes the technically necessary connection data (IP address, time, page, browser). The website uses no cookies, no ads and no analytics tools.
9. Disclosure and location of data
We do not pass on any data to third parties. The services named in sections 4, 5, 7 and 8 process data under their own responsibility; servers may be located outside Switzerland (Google Cloud Storage and Firebase Hosting worldwide).
10. Your rights
You have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data. Since the app sends no personal data to us, we usually hold no data about you. Write to us at the address above.
11. Changes
We update this policy when the app or the website changes. The current version is always here.
